Strategy Overview
Golf Environment Europe's mission is to promote environmental responsibility and sustainability in golf. In 2005 we defined four specific areas of activity in relation to the golf sector.
1 European Forum for Sustainable Golf
- The Foundation will serve as an independent portal between the golf sector and environmental interests by establishing a European Forum for Golf and Environment.
- The Forum will provide a regular point of contact and dialogue for representatives from the golf industry and its sponsors, greenkeeper associations, national golf federation Ecology officers, environmental NGO's and public bodies (e.g. European and international institutions and agencies).
- The Forum will liaise closely with many international partners. Exchange programmes and partnership projects are envisaged.
- Forum discussions will feed into the technical development of the Environmental Management and Accreditation System for golf facilities.
2 Environmental Management System for Golf
- The Committed to Green Programme is a widely recognised brand of environmental quality in the golf sector. It is based on the founding principles of good science, independent setting of standards involving all relevant stakeholders, and independent verification. We will uphold these principles through the publication and dissemination of relevant standards and guidelines.
- We will adapt, re-brand and promote the Committed to Green Programme for golf facilities, the only independent golf-specific environmental management system based in Europe. The new system will be known as the ECOManagement Process.
- We will seek to interface the Eco-Golf process, criteria and technical guidelines with the European Community's EMAS registration and verification process to enable golf facilities to become EMAS accredited.
3 Sustainable Golf Development Programme
- Publication of the Golf Environment Europe Guidelines for Sustainable Golf Course Development, in cooperation with leading environmental NGOs and golf architects.
- A service to advise public authorities on Strategic Environmental Assessments for regional/national golf development plans.
- A programme for guiding individual golf projects through the appraisal, planning and construction phases in accordance with Golf Environment Europe criteria.
- A series of training workshops on Environmental Impact Assessment of golf projects.
4 Sustainable Golf Events Programme
- Environmental advisory service for sponsors, promoters and organisers of golf events.
- Implementation of the Environmental Guidelines for Golf Events.
- Advise to tournament venues on their Environmental Management Systems.
- Promotion of environmental responsibility in golf via press and broadcast media.
