European Golf Organisations Convene in Sweden

Last week saw the 6th meeting of the European Forum for Golf and Environment at Ljunghusens Golf Club in southern Sweden. The Forum comprises representatives of all Europe’s leading golf organisations, members of technical institutes, and representatives from six national golf federations.

The Danish Golf Union, a representative from the Centre for Water Science at Cranfield University, and the useful EU interlocutor Golfeuropa were also present during the two day event. Read More...

European Union Pesticides Directive

The draft EU Pesticides Directive comes up for its first reading next week. MEP’s will be voting on the content of the Directive, following amendments proposed by the various European Parliament Committees. In recent weeks, GEE has been in liaison with a number of golf sector organisations and the European Commission regarding the content of the Directive. It was agreed by GEE’s Trustees, and in taking opinion from the European Forum for Golf and Environment, that GEE should make an objective submission to MEP’s in advance of the reading. Read More...
Carbon - Addressing The Issue in European Golf

At last week’s meeting of the European Forum for Golf and Environment in Sweden, the issue of carbon management was discussed. The Forum members were keen to establish a way forward to help the industry tackle this long term challenge. EFGE Critiques Environmental Resource Centre

At a special workshop, Jonathan Smith of Golf Environment Europe, and Charles Peacock of North Carolina State University introduced the ERC website to representatives of Europe’s golfing organisations and a range of technical specialists in golf environment issues. The overwhelming consensus was that the ERC was well designed; structured; easy to use; and filled with extremely valuable technical resources for practitioners in golf course planning, design, construction and management. Comm's Strategy Evolves with EFGE Direction

The opening workshop of the October 2007 EFGE meeting focused on the evolution of GEE’s communications strategy. Benjamin Warren, the newest member of the GEE team, opened proceedings by presenting an overview of the communications plan to the Forum members. The ensuing discussions helped clarify key elements of the plan, and opened a debate on how best to raise environmental awareness among audiences in and outside of the sector. Read More...

Environmental Certification Programme reaches final stage of planning

The recent meeting in Sweden gave members of the EFGE the opportunity to discuss proposals drafted on environmental certification.

It has been recognised that the issue of environmental certification remains unresolved for many golf federations and facilities. It is widely agreed that the issue has needed further investigation, and GEE were delighted to present the latest rationale and draft structure for the scheme.
